On Labor Day, Steve and I returned home from a weeks vacation in Denver, Colorado with our 3 children. Being able to spend quality time with our wonderful children and numerous friends in Colorado was refreshing. Steve and I returned home feeling blessed to have Micah, Eli and Hannah as our children plus the friends we have in Colorado.
On Saturday, September 5, we Thompsons along with 3 friends hiked La Plata Peak, the fifth highest peak in Colorado, so the sixth highest in the continental US. While the rest of the nation was enjoying 90 degree weather, as we climbed this 14er, we experienced temperatures of 35 degrees, winds that were 45 mph and snow.
Steve is taking picture. We are at the beginning, just starting off to summit La Plata. Charles at the right and me in my signature yellow wind breaker.
John our 14er guide with Eli. John and his sister Kathryn were on our adventure.
5 of us wait for the other 3 to complete the climb through the bolder field.
We are at the sub summit here. My mittens on. Micah has given Hannah his vest to help her stay warm.
Pausing to regain energy to continue the decent from the cold and rain
Moving quickly on a wide area of the trail back to our vehicles because of the cold and rain. Hannah also suffering from altitude sickness.
